France - The Worlds Fastest Sail - Hydroptère (55.7 knots)
France - With peak speeds reaching an amazing 55.7 knots, l’Hydroptère has shattered the world speed sailing record* with an average speed of 51.36 knots over 500 meters. This not only trounces the Macquarie Innovation speed of 50.07 kts (the fastest boat), but in the ongoing battle between big and small, the giant hydrofoil has become the fastest watercraft under sail, besting the 50.57 kts recorded by Alexandre Caizergues on his kite-board last year. With record-making season just beginning, the bar has been set high by the mighty Hydroptère and her crew.

The Nullarbor Links concept is unique. The 18-hole par 72 golf course spans 1,365 kilometres with one hole in each participating town or roadhouse along the Eyre Highway, from Kalgoorlie in Western Australia to Ceduna in South Australia. Each hole includes a green and tee and somewhat rugged outback-style natural terrain fairway. Australia's first win on Tour de France.
In cycling, Cadel Evans becomes the first Australian to win the Tour de France. The 2011 Tour de France was the 98th Tour de France. It started on 2 July 2011 with a 180-kilometre (110 mi) first stage at the Passage du Gois, and ended on the Champs-Élysées in Paris on 24 July 2011.
The 2011 Tour de France was the 98th Tour de France. It started on 2 July 2011 with a 180-kilometre (110 mi) first stage at the Passage du Gois, and ended on the Champs-Élysées in Paris on 24 July 2011. The complete route of the 2011 Tour de France was announced in October 2010. The route entered Italy for part of two stages, including an overnight stop.
The emphasis was on the Alps in 2011, as it was on the Pyrenees in 2010, commemorating the 100th anniversary of those peaks first being visited in the Tour.[1] The Col du Galibier was visited twice during the race and the 18th stage was the first time the peloton finished on the 2645 metre pass.[2] It was the highest summit finish in tour history, beating the finish of the Col du Granon (2413 m) during 1986 Tour de France. For only the second time since 1967 the 2011 Tour started with a mass start stage instead of a prologue, the last occasion being in 2008.[3]
Australian Cadel Evans won the race, having gained the lead in a time-trial on the penultimate day. He became the first Australian to win the race, and at 34, the oldest post-war winner. Andy Schleck of Luxembourg was second for the third successive year, and his brother Frank Schleck third. Mark Cavendish was the first British winner of the points classification, and Samuel Sánchez of Spain won the mountains category.

Team Family campaign
Get your children playing
New research shows a staggering one in five children aged 6-11 years do not receive any support from their parents when it comes to getting involved in sport outside of school.

The findings, released by David Lloyd Leisure as part of its Team Family campaign, also found that a further 50% of boys and 15% of girls say they would play more sport if their parents were prepared to drive them to sports clubs. Yet despite this, a third of parents believe their children should be playing more sport.
“I wholeheartedly support this campaign,”says Olympic gold medal winner Denise Lewis OBE, the Team Family ambassador. “Parents play a massive role in inspiring their children to get involved in sport. Without an incredible level of support from my mum I would never have achieved all that I have.”
